Elkwood is an idea built from a simple realization. I have been using 3D printers for my entire professional career—every part functional, and every print useful—yet we continue to consider these parts “prototypes”. I happen to find these parts beautiful and unique. When combined with natural materials, they have the ability to provide quality, lasting, durable goods that are valuable in the daily lives of the community.
Most first world countries in the 19th and 20th century saw massive consolidation, yet, around the globe small communities continued to produce their own native goods. When we look at the goods that we treasure most, they are the steamer trunks that brought our families into this country. They are the hand-crafted stools our loved ones sat on while they hand sharpened tools they used to make a living to support us. We are dedicated to the development of this craft and using modern technologies to do so.
Elkwood started out of a small bedroom in a 4th floor walk-up in Brooklyn, NY. The printers were in the closet, and the shipping materials were under the bed. The inventory management system was two storage cubes, doubling as stools by the door. This is where the first 100 units were produced.
Our hope is that Elkwood is known not just for quality goods that last but for creating a legacy that we can all be proud to be a part of. We believe in honesty and the selection of natural, unadulterated materials. We believe in thoughtful, simple design and the beauty of reinvention. We aim to establish a new standard for products that will one day tell the story of where we have been.
When you support Small Business...
You're not just buying a product; you're buying into someone's passions, their story, their vision. That comes with the pride and satisfaction that connects you to a community. We don’t yet have the luxury of being free from our day jobs and full dedicated to pursuing this passion, but are striving on the path to earn that freedom.
We thank you for your support of small businesses.
